December 2012 Love With Food Review! - Best one so far

I loved loved loved this month's Love With Food box!

It was actually one of my favorites out of all my December boxes. A big part of that is because I really enjoyed every single item in the box and that's really rare for me. There's always something with food that I usually don't care for like banana, mango, or some other type of flavoring that I'm really particular about, but I absolutely adored everything I got this month. I ended up gifting a lot of my family either a 3 or 6-month subscription to Love With Food, as I was able to score a really great deal on them through Groupon. I'm hoping more subscription boxes have deals through Groupon or Living Social since it's a really smart way to get people hooked, like I did.

Quick rundown on what you need to know about Love With Food:

- Foodie Subscription Box (one of the least expensive options out there)
- $12 a month (and gets cheaper when you buy 6 months at a time)
- For every box that's sold, they donate a meal to a hungry child (you can see how many meals have been given out through Love With Food here)
- Awesome referral program (earning points that you can trade in for full sized items)

Anyway, let's get to the good stuff!

(By the way, I have to say again, that I freaking love my camera on my Samsung Galaxy S3. It's so much better than the pictures I used to post in the beginning of my blogging. :P)

I really wish they would put the prices of the full sized items on the card.

I favor the subscription boxes that include pricing of their items since it's very open and honest, and you have an approximation of if you're getting a good deal in the box.

I would say if the items in the box are worth at least twice as much as you paid for it, it's a pretty good deal, and you're definitely getting your money's worth.

As with all subscription boxes, since it's random and usually unknown of what you will be getting, there is a good chance that you'll get something you like out of the box, and some things that you don't like. Having a high value box makes up for getting items that you wouldn't use normally or enjoy, since it's more seen as a bonus than something that you paid for. A lot of subscription box companies get this concept and try to keep the value of the box high, so that people who don't enjoy some of the items in the box don't feel like they're being gipped. Love With Food seems to do a good job with this, as far as I can tell.

I apologize for the glare and dark lighting. It was a little cloudy on Christmas, so I had a bit of trouble getting my pictures right. The individual item pictures look better though.

Holiday Salt Water Taffy from Taffy Town

These were really pretty and cute, although I couldn't quite put my finger on distinguishing which flavors I got. In any case, I would say that they were just okay, since I couldn't really distinguish what made them better from other salt water taffy candies I've tried in the past.

Candy Cane Truffle from Kara Chocolates

These were one of my favorites from the box. I love peppermint and I love chocolate. And I love truffles. So it was the trifecta of all the things I adore in one. Although, on the card, it looks completely different than what I got in the box. My truffles that I unwrapped were definitely not topped with bits of candy cane. They were as smooth as a baby's bottom (I think I've been watching too much Little Rascals over the break). Delicious though. They just melted in your mouth with a slight hint of peppermint. If I had more of them here, I'd have been in trouble. Would definitely purchase these!

Chocolate Tasting Square from Madecasse

I got one in milk chocolate and one in dark chocolate to sample. I thought they were just okay, although I did prefer the milk chocolate better. They didn't melt in your mouth like a good chocolate should. I still prefer Godiva chocolate or Ritter over these. It's always nice to get chocolate to try though, especially in months where they won't melt all over the place in your mailbox.

Honey Cinnamon Almonds from Nunes Farms

These were okay. The flavor was good, but they didn't have that roasty crunch! that I usually like in my almonds. They actually seemed a little stale to me... but maybe that's just me. I just know that I didn't finish it in one sitting, and that's usually a bad sign. They weren't horrible or anything, just okay.

Belgian Milk Chocolate-Dipped Nutter Butter from the Big Chocolate Dipper

This was my absolute FAVORITE out of all the things that came in the box. I don't even really like nutter butters that much, but this was so delicious. In fact, I started eating it while my boyfriend was in the shower and had no self control to save him a little bit to try. Yes, that's how good it was. I felt kinda bad. But I was so elated from the silky chocolate, crisp crunch from the toffee bits and cookie, that I didn't feel THAT bad. I was actually hoping to trade in my points for more of these babies, but by the time I visited the website, they were sold out. The Love With Food community is getting pretty competitive. I should stay on top of my game next time. Highly recommend. And with a company name like the Big Chocolate Dipper? Aces in my book. Top notch, good fellow.

Gingerbread Boy from Nikki's Cookies

I was so happy to see this in the box! I haven't had a gingerbread man (I mean, boy) in so very long. Look how cute he is! And his backside was covered in white chocolate. Mmm... just how I like it. ;) But all innuendos aside, he was pretty yummies. I shared some with my almost sister in law and her husband and they all seemed to like it. The flavor was light, not too gingery, and the white chocolate not overbearingly sweet. It actually went pretty well with my Trader Joe's Spicy Chai Latte I made that morning. Of course, it could have been a little lighter in texture. I felt like I had to bite in pretty hard and there was a lot of crunch there, and not light airy crunch like with the nutter butter. That's my only criticism though. Other than that, I enjoyed my gingerbread boy.

Mocha Mint Cappuccino from Hills Brothers

I am actually saving this one for a morning when I have class. I'm hoping it'll be a decent replacement for my usual peppermint mocha latte from Starbucks. I will update once I try it!

Fleur de Sel Caramel Popcorn from 479 Popcorn

I thought these were pretty good too. Everyone I gave a box to this Christmas thought the popcorn was delicious. The sea salt added with the caramel hit your tongue just right. And the popcorn was light and airy. I could barely stop myself from eating it all so Henry could have a try. I would probably like to try other flavors of this brand. Of course, we just received a popcorn maker for Christmas, so we'll probably be experimenting with ours for a while before we go and buy new popcorn.

Overall, I loved my December Love With Food box. Even though it's the least expensive out of all the subscription boxes for food, I think they put a lot of thought and care into choosing their samples. And I absolutely love their points system. I'm up to about 6,000 points now since I've bought all my family a subscription for Christmas, which I can use to redeem full sized items from their shop (not for boxes, unfortunately). I got a deal off Groupon for my subscription, so I'm really paying about $6 a month for mine. Pretty spoiled right now, definitely. I'm still undecided on whether or not I will be willing to pay the $12 a month for it when my 6 months is over. I really enjoy getting the box, but I've got some new year's resolutions to keep! Anyway, if you're a foodie, I would definitely recommend trying it. I know my family seemed to like it, and I'm sure that when it keeps coming every month, they'll enjoy those too.

November 2012 Pawbox Review!

Hey everyone!

So this is another late review. Another Pawbox for Boomer and Sookie!

Boomer and Sookie loved this sample. It came in little packed rectangular shapes and we ripped off bits and pieces and sprinkled it into their regular dried food. We weren't sure if we should give it to them whole or not, but the box did come with a coupon if we wanted to buy more. Thank goodness our sample came in Beef because we suspect that Boomer is allergic to chicken. Would probably buy this in the future, as it livens up their boring daily dry food meals, but it's probably too pricey for people like us to purchase for our dogs as their regular food.

Yummy Chummies Salmon Grain Free Treats for Puppies and Dogs

Another great treat sample. These are soft treats, so they can make your hands a little smelly. Boomer and Sookie seemed to really like it though, doing their tricks extra hard to get a few. They went fast. Would probably purchase these again. They're only 14 calories, and rich in Omega-3 and 6. Although this treat would be good for all ages, I would highly recommend them for our senior dogs especially, since they're always lacking in vitamins and nutrients when they get older and need to watch out for the health more carefully (as with humans).

Darford Omega Boosters in Tuna flavor

Boomer and Sookie really liked the smell.

And here they are enjoying it.

This little sample was pretty pungent, but most things that come out a can for dogs are. It does have that tuna "cat-food" smell, but the dogs seemed to like it. It says that you can use it to top their food as a supplement or as a treat anytime. We decided to just put it on their food. Boomer couldn't get enough of it, and Sookie was being a little weird about it at first, but she eventually started eating it all. She always has to wait for Boomer to finish eating before she starts eating. Only with food though, not with treats. I'm not sure where that behavior comes from, but that's just how it is with them.

Pet-Tabs Complete Daily Vitamin-Mineral Supplement

I wasn't sure they were going to enjoy these tabs because dogs are usually pretty picky about weird textures but they ate it right up like it was a treat! They were even willing to work for it a little. I think having a vitamin would be good for them. I would probably purchase these again once they're a little older and need it more. It doesn't cost that much at $0.12 a dose (on 1800petmeds.com for a 540 count). 

Amazing Tooth Saver Dog Toy

Here, you can see them bickering over the ball already. Our little Sookie loves toys, and our Boomer loves destroying them. That's probably how Sookie got so possessive of hers. In any case, I'm all for a new toy! And the fact that it helps them clean their teeth is a bonus!

Overall, I liked this month's box but I wasn't too excited over it. The dogs loved it, of course. They always love when one of their boxes come in because it always means a new toy or something yummy for them to try. In any case, I'm always happy when I see them happy. Usually for my reviews, I will estimate the value of the box by looking up the full sized items and then calculating the price of the sample size, but unfortunately, they ate everything up so quickly that I've thrown all the wrappers away by now. By looking at the items though, they all seemed like they would add up to about $10, which is what I paid for the box. I prefer that subscription boxes give more than what you paid for them, since you have no idea what's coming in them. Pawbox seems to include a lot of samples that I could probably pick up for free at a pet expo or at a pet store if I asked. I will probably end up cancelling this one to save some money. We usually go to a pet expo every year and I pick up a lot of these items there for free.

If you're not the type of person who goes to a lot of pet expos, or out to events with your pups very much, and you still want to get them a little something every month and don't have a lot to spend, Pawbox is the most inexpensive subscription box out there for dogs (that I know of).

December 2012 My Glam Bag by Ipsy Review

So I'm stuck on my couch vegetating wondering if I should be studying before my break is over, or if I should be blogging and catching up on my reviews. Obviously, I chose blogging. ;) But I'll get to my school work eventually.

I really recommend getting a Google Chromebook for those who are just ordinary people that use their computers for browsing the internet. I definitely would have gotten my mom one if they had been out then. She just uses her laptop for checking emails, and since then, she's gotten a smartphone which can check emails. So basically, she spent $700 on a laptop for only checking emails... which she probably uses very infrequently now that she has her Galaxy SIII. Google had a really smart idea making the Chromebook. It's inexpensive and everyone can have a way to access the internet. They are going to take over the world, I swear. I was just telling a friend yesterday that I remember when I was younger and I had learned html just to be able to figure out how to put pictures and icons into my xanga blog and bold words. The times have definitely changed. Anyway, let's get on to the review! I do love my new Chromebook though. Thanks hunnie. :)

I haven't been able to try this out yet, but it looks lovely. I'm not very good at using highlighter, so I'm going to have to watch more tutorials when I have time. I would say that knowing how to highlight your face is an art, and I just don't have the time to pick up a new hobby at the moment. This will probably stay in my "to use" box for a while. Sheets do sound like an easy way to apply highlighter though, and you all know I'm absolutely FOR anything that makes putting on makeup quicker and easier. I will update once I try it!

Mirabella Prime For Face and Eyes - $29/0.45 oz - $29.00 for this full size sample

This was a full sized product that was included in the bag! It's a really nice primer that's made in California. This was the higher end item that was in included in this month's bag. I haven't been able to use it on my face quite yet, since I've been using my BB cream this month and you don't need a primer for BB cream. But I was able to test it on my hand, and I could definitely see a difference in the lines in my hand. I spot tested it up in the pics above, but I'm not sure if the pictures do it justice. I tend to break out really easily with primers though. I tried Smashbox primer for a little while and it made me break out a lot, so I will be sure to update once I start using this primer more frequently. It feels very nice on my hand though and it's non-greasy.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero - $19.00/0.04 US oz - $14.25 for this 0.03 US oz sample

I was so happy to see this in our December bag. But not because I wanted to try it. Only because I already have it in my arsenal supply and love it! It's definitely one of my favorite eye pencils to use, although they're very pricey. The line goes on very smooth and if you use it with the Urban Decay primer, it usually stays put pretty well. Unfortunately, I have hooded eyes and they get oily throughout the day, so after about 5 hours, I can start to see it smudging in the creases above my eyelids. I used to use it a lot but I've been content with the Be a Bombshell Gel felt-tip liner that came in my October Glam Bag, which still hasn't dried up yet amazingly! I probably won't have to buy an eyeliner for a while though since we basically get one every month in the bags. I've got a lot of eyeliners to use up.

Be a Bombshell Lip Gloss in Hot Mess - $14.00/0.11 oz - $14.00 for this full sized sample

I haven't been able to wear this color yet either. I was planning to, but it was so hectic Christmas and New Year's that I barely had time to think about what clothes I was going to put on those days! I was really hoping to wear this out for New Year's Eve (my birthday), but we ended up going to a family party rather than going out (where I could actually get away with wearing a bright bold red lipgloss). I did swatch it though and it seems like it would be really pretty on my medium/tan skin. I am also hesitant to open it and use it because I already have so many open lip glosses that I am not even close to finishing! I'm thinking that I'm going to have to buy some disposable lip applicators so I can try out all these new glosses without contaminating them. I will update with a picture once I wear it! :)

NYX Loose Pearl Eye Shadow in Mocha Pearl - $2.99/0.06 fl oz - $2.99 for this full sized sample

This is the first loose eye shadow I've ever had. I am not really a fan of products that are "loose" only because I'm a pretty clumsy person. And of course, when I opened it up to swatch it, there was some powder stuck in the cap and I got it all over my pants, which is why my swatch up there is all over the place. I ended up rubbing my hand all over the powder on the pants. So I apologize for the splotchy swatch, but it is a nice mocha gold color. I'm not sure how often I would use this though, only because it is very messy and complicated, which doesn't mesh well with my philosophy of beauty products. I will either give this to a friend who is used to loose powders, or use it only when I have time and I'm getting ready for a nice night out (which isn't very often). The color isn't so dark or bold that it can't be used for everyday wear, but it would just take too much time out of my morning just for eye shadow. And I don't usually wear eye shadow everyday anyway. My Urban Decay palette has a similar color and it goes on very nice (and easy).

Last, but not least! My surprise bonus product!

Urban Decay Naked Skin Beauty Balm - $38.00/1 fl oz - $4.56 for this .12 fl oz sample

I was so so excited to see this in my bag, because I love trying new BB creams! I went through a very crazy phase of ordering BB cream samples from Korea to try (since they have the best), and also asking for samples of some US brands from Sephora and Clinique. I haven't been able to post my very lengthy review of these creams yet though because there are just so many and I started writing subscription box reviews instead. I will be sure to put this in my list of BB creams that I've reviewed if I ever get to post it though. I was also excited to get it because it means that I've been noticed by Ipsy for my blogging, AND that this BB cream isn't even on the shelves yet. According to the card that it came with, it will be released on January 8th exclusively on UrbanDecay.com.

I've tried it once or twice, and it goes on very light, and does even up my skin tone. As you can see from the picture above, it matches pretty well with my medium/tan skin. I believe it will only come in one color from what I can find on the website. It didn't make me breakout more, which is nice. Unfortunately, the downside to this BB cream is that it doesn't provide much coverage in covering up any blemishes. I had a few unsightly pimples right in the middle of my forehead that day (I usually don't break out, but when I do, it has to be in the most obvious part of my face), and I was hoping it would help kind of smooth them out like my Missha Perfect Cover BB cream does, but alas, it did not. The Urban Decay Naked Skin BB cream would probably be a good choice for a BB cream if you never have blemishes, and you only need a light SPF. I live in Arizona, where there is plenty of sunshine, so I prefer a higher SPF even though I am not out in the sun very often. Better to be safe than sorry. The UD BB cream has an spf of 20, while my Missha BB cream has an spf of 42. Urban Decay claims in its little information package it came in, that it will improve skin quality after 8 weeks of using it. Of course, I can't attest to these claims without buying the full size product, so I can update what results I see after a few days, as that's probably how long the sample would last me. I probably wouldn't purchase this though because it is pricier than my Missha BB cream and doesn't provide any blemish coverage. You would have to use a separate concealer for that, while with my Missha BB cream, I don't have to (unless it's a really huge blemish). I haven't found a BB cream that provides as much coverage and color matching as my Missha does (I wear #27 in honey beige, although I could probably get away with the #23 during winter months). If the Urban Decay BB cream offered more coverage, I would probably try out the full size. Some people do prefer the lighter coverage though, as with foundation, everyone has their own preferences. It does look very natural, but if I'm going to pay so much for a BB cream, I would like it to actually make my skin look much better than it actually is without anything on it, while still looking natural. I feel like the Missha achieves this perfectly. I've heard in Korea, the Missha brand is more of what teenagers wear, but it's cheap and it works! I love Urban Decay, but I don't have nice enough skin to use this new BB cream. I'll update with my thoughts once I've used up the sample.

Overall, December's month's products were definitely another win! I mean, with the value of the bag alone $77.30, and what you pay for it ($10), it's completely worth it. Ipsy does the BEST job of giving you your money's worth. I am actually supposed to be cutting down on my subscription boxes, but I don't think I will be giving up this one, only because you get so much value for your money's worth. I've also been able to try products that I would have tried otherwise. Sure, I'm starting to build up more products than I can actually use, but all I know is that when I go shopping at Sephora to buy products, I always end up spending at least $50. Paying $10 a month is not bad, and you can always save the products you don't end up using to give as gifts or stocking stuffers for Christmas. Ipsy is one of the best beauty subscription boxes out there! I would definitely recommend.

Also, if you want some sneak peeks of what's going to be in the upcoming month's bag, I would recommend following them on facebook as they usually post spoilers on their page. And a lot of people can tell what it is by looking at the blurry picture, so you can find out if you'd want to sign up for that month's bag that way. OR, if you don't like your surprises ruined, I would definitely recommend NOT following them as they do post those sneek peeks.

November Glossybox Review!

Hey everyone!

Sorry I am so late in posting some of my reviews. My mom was in the hospital around Thanksgiving and I was just slammed for a little at school, so I had a few other things on my mind. Luckily, my mom is okay and I'm doing well in my classes so far, so I can definitely use the rest of my break to catch up on reviews! AND! On my new Google Chromebook that the bf was somehow able to track down for me with the crazy Christmas rush! He's the best. :) It was an early bday present which he let me open early so he wouldn't have to wrap it. I am ecstatic! I definitely felt spoiled this December, although I am most thankful for my mom being well, making up with my sister (a year and a half of not speaking), my supporting family, my wonderful boyfriend of almost 4 years now, my two dogs, and the few, but reliable friends I have. I was having a bit of a rough patch this year, but I am so grateful that it is ending well. The boxes are just the icing on top of the metaphorical cake!

So the first review I'm going to post is on Glossybox. I just got my first one in November. It's one of the higher end beauty boxes, so I was really excited to try it.

The actual box with the items in it was very high quality and sturdy. It's the only one out of all my boxes that I would probably want to keep every month to store photos or my cards that come with my sub boxes.

Again, I love boxes that include the prices of the full sized items.

Makes my job a lot easier, and you can see right away if you're getting your money's worth or not.

Love their little bow.

The loofa soap is what I got as a bonus item for using the code "luxe". I believe it was a part of the Spa Luxe box that was sent out in October. Really bummed I missed that one, but I was content with November's box.

Illamsqua LTD Lip and Eye pencil in medium (0.035 oz) - $14

I haven't gotten to try it yet as an eyeliner or a lip pencil, but I did swatch it and it's a nice color. At the time, I was a little bummed since I didn't really have any kind of red lipstick or lip gloss to go with this, but then I received a lip gloss in my December Ipsy bag that I could pair it with. I'll probably use it for New Year's Eve. I'll be sure to take a pic once I do! I've heard great things about Illamsqua.

Incoco Nail Polish Applique (Full size set) - $8

This I haven't had the chance to try this one yet either. But it's supposed to last up to 14 days! That's a very long time for something like this. I've gotten gel manicures that haven't lasted up to 14 days. We'll see. I will update once I do.

Kryolan for Glossybox Blusher in Glossy Rosewood (2.5 g) - $9

I was really excited to see this in the box, only because I was running out of my NARS blush in Super Orgasm and was in dire need of purchasing another blush soon. The color looks paler than what I usually use  and it's matte, so I was happy to see that it was actually a really high quality blush that looked nice and natural on me. This is definitely in my daily routine pile.

NuMe Style Arganics by NuMe Argan Oil (0.33 oz)- $4.87

I was happy to see an argan oil in the box since I've always wanted to try one but never could bring myself to buy a full size for myself, as they're usually pretty pricey. I've tried it once after showering, and although it says that it's non-greasy, I felt that it was really sticky in my hands and in my hair. I applied this to damp hair though and air dried. I usually take a shower at night and don't like applying any product in my hair since I don't want any residue on my pillow, but maybe I'll try taking up showering in the morning so I can start testing these hair products out the right way. It has a light, flowery smell. I'll update once I start using it more frequently.

Skin & Co Roma Truffle Serum: Hydro-Toning Day Face Serum (0.5 oz) - $17.82

I'm not much of a skincare routine kind of girl, although I know I probably should start since it's better to start early than late in anything. I like the serum though. I think I vaguely remember someone telling me that a face serum goes on before anything else, so I apply it first before I put on my moisturizer and bb cream. I like the smell. It's light and sweet, although I can't quite put my finger on what it smells like. Almonds? I don't know. I haven't used it daily enough to see if it makes a difference in my skin tone, but I will probably start tomorrow since I've been breaking out a lot lately. I will update once I've used up the whole thing. It goes on very light. You can barely notice that it's there, which is probably a good thing, but the downside is that it's not strong enough to be a moisturizer in this winter desert weather.

Heartland Fragrance Co Loofa Soap in Oatmeal & Honey (6 oz) - $8

I really enjoyed the soap. It felt great on my back. Not so great on the more sensitive parts though like the inner thigh, for instance. I just ended up using it for my back, shoulders, and heels. The smell was nice, a little sweet, which I like. It takes a lot a bit of water and massaging to soften up the loofa part, and the soap ends up getting white and moldy looking after a while. It's not that appealing, but it's soap, so it still does the job. It lasted about a month, so that's pretty good. And I've been recycling the leftover loofa by rubbing my regular soap on it, so that's great.

My overall impression of Glossybox is that it offers much more high end products than say Birchbox or Ipsy, but that's because you pay more for it. I think the value does outweigh the cost though, so if you enjoy the more high end brands, I would definitely recommend trying out Glossybox. I would describe it as classy and elegant.
